Legal Question: Jail Time

If I don’t turn myself in on a commit to serve jail time of 5 days, will I serve more jail time?

There is no way to know how much more time you could be facing if you fail to report to serve your 5 days. You probably have quite a bit of suspended jail time hanging over your head, but ultimately its up to the judge. Jail isn’t the Holiday Inn. You don’t get to check in when you want to—you have to go when the court orders you to be there. However, if you have a good reason for not reporting, the judge may be lenient. If you don’t already have a lawyer, contact one in your area and explain what is going on. A good attorney could help explain the situation to the judge, and you may avoid more jail time. If you do nothing and are eventually arrested because of a warrant, it will just make matters worse.
