An experienced bush pilot made a forced landing on a high mountain slope while attempting to air drop emergency supplies to stranded snowmobilers. The pilot was not injured; however his aircraft was totally destroyed. The pilot was immediately investigated by the NTSB and the FAA for negligent operation of his aircraft and was facing a potential 30-day suspension of his private pilot’s license and a fine. After assisting the pilot with his detailed responses to questions from the agencies, the pilot received no sanction whatsoever and was not even requested to take an FAA check ride.
